How to chat with strangers on ChatWS
No account to create, no room to pick, no profile to fill in.
1Answer three questions
Your gender, your age and who you would like to meet. No name, no email, no photo.
2Turn your camera on
Your browser asks once. You see your own preview first, so you can fix the lighting before anyone else sees you.
3Say hi, or tap Next
You are paired one on one in seconds. Talk, type in the chat box or send a reaction, and tap Next whenever you want someone new.
Why people pick ChatWS
Random video chat, minus everything that usually gets in the way.
- One person, full attention
- No crowded room and no scrolling list of usernames. ChatWS puts you face to face with one stranger at a time, and both of you are actually there.
- Nothing to sign up for
- No email, no password, no app store. It runs in the browser you already have.
- Free, for real
- No coins, no premium tier, no paywalled filters. One labelled sponsor link keeps the lights on.
- Video and text together
- Every chat has a text box beside the video. Drop a link, spell out a name, or keep typing when talking out loud is not an option.
Someone new is always a tap away
Morning in Manila, midnight in Mexico City. The lobby is shared across time zones, so there is usually someone ready to say hi.
Talk freely. Leave nothing behind.
Your camera feed goes to the person you are talking to and nowhere else. ChatWS does not record calls, store messages or keep a profile on you, so a chat really is over when you tap Stop.
Block and next
Not feeling it? One tap skips the person and makes sure you are never paired with them again.
Reports reach a human
Report a problem and the chat ends, a still frame goes to moderators, and repeat offenders are banned.
18+ only
Everyone confirms their age before the first chat, and anyone who looks underage is removed.
Questions before your first chat
Quick answers, in the format you are about to use.
What is ChatWS?
ChatWS is free random video chat. The name stands for Chat With Strangers: you answer three quick questions, turn on your camera and get paired one on one with someone new. Tap Next for another person whenever you like.
Is ChatWS really free?
Yes. There are no credits, coins, subscriptions or premium features. The site is paid for by a single sponsor link that is clearly labelled as an ad.
Do I need to sign up or download anything?
No. ChatWS runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and nothing you enter on the start form becomes an account. An optional free account exists only if you want to keep your karma across devices.
Can I choose who I talk to?
On the start form you choose whether you want to meet women or men. Matching filters for gender and country can be switched on with karma, which you earn simply by chatting and coming back. Filters are never sold.
Is my video recorded?
Not by ChatWS. Video and audio travel between your device and the other person's, directly where the network allows and otherwise through an encrypted relay that stores nothing. As on any video call, the other person could record their own screen, so only show what you would be happy for a stranger to see.
What happens if someone is rude?
Tap the flag above their video. Block and next skips them and makes sure you never meet again. If they broke the rules, report them instead: the chat ends, a still frame goes to human moderators, and repeat offenders are banned.
Wasn't ChatWS a text chat?
It was. Years ago chatws.com was a text chat for meeting strangers. Today it is random video chat with a text box alongside, so you can still type, and now you can see who you are talking to.
Go on, say hi to a stranger
Free random video chat, one on one. No signup, no download, no waiting around.
